Add this anti-cancer superfood to your diet!

Research has consistently shown that cruciferous vegetables have anti-cancer properties. Those include broccoli, kale, cauliflower, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, and arugula.

Human studies have shown that these vegetables can help reduce the risk of lung, stomach, colorectal, prostate, cervical, breast and bladder cancers.

What makes them such an anti-cancer powerhouse? They have one major cancer-fighting property–sulforaphane.

Sulforaphane aids in helping the liver detoxify carcinogens and other toxins, and also has potent antioxidant effects protecting our skin, vision, the lining of our blood vessels and joints from oxidative stress.

Another benefit of this sulfur compound is that it helps us metabolize hormones efficiently, which in turn, helps decrease the cancer-promoting effects of certain estrogens in both men and women.

Better yet, French researchers discovered years ago that sulforaphane has the ability to cause cancer cells to self destruct!

So what food has the most concentrated form of this anti-cancer compound?

BROCCOLI SPROUTS

Although broccoli is a rich source of sulforaphane, broccoli sprouts contain 10-100 times more the sulforaphane found in mature broccoli.

Where to get broccoli sprouts:

  • Can buy broccoli seeds that are made for sprouting. A couple of reputable sites are mountainroseherbs.com or sproutpeople.com. Take a look here to learn how to sprout them your self.
  • Can buy them in a package at your local health food store.

Ways to incorporate them into your diet:

Add them to salads, sprinkle on sandwiches or add to your smoothies.
